Free Walking Tour Lima – Itinerary

Free walking tour Lima begins at the monument to José Olaya, right in front of the Plaza de Armas de Lima, a square that is known as the birthplace of the city, since it was the Spaniards who, when marking its limits, began with the construction of what is now known as the capital of Peru. In this place everyone will be able to learn more about how this colonization event was.

On this tour you will also be able to see the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, the Archbishop’s Palace of Lima, the Palace of the Union, beautiful buildings that were built in Spanish times and that saw the development of the city pass in front of them. All travelers will learn about the importance of each of these buildings and what is hidden in their history.

After visiting the “Plaza de Armas”, we will visit the famous Basilica of Santo Domingo. That place is made up of a set of religious buildings of very beautiful architecture. This place is well known in Lima because it was here more than 400 years ago that the “Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos” began to function, considered the oldest university in America. Also in this place you can find the remains of two very important saints in the Peruvian Catholic religion, “Santa Rosa de Lima” and “San Martin de Porres”.

We will then continue with a visit to the Rímac River, in addition to visiting the House of Peruvian Literature, which is a public center that is responsible for disseminating knowledge of Peruvian literature, there we can learn about the life and work of some of the most famous Peruvian writers such as Cesar Vallejo, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, José María Arguedas, Mario Vargas Llosa, among others.

After this visit we will walk through some of the most beautiful and historical streets of Lima where our travelers will be able to appreciate of what was the wall of Lima, a wall that was built in the seventeenth century to protect the city from pirates.

We will end our tour with a fun walk discovering more about the city and its history. Without a doubt, an experience that you should not miss.
