Free Walking Tour Arequipa Itinerary

Free Walking Tour Arequipa begins in the courtyard of the Hatunpa restaurant, located just 2 blocks from the Plaza de Armas in Arequipa. From the Hatunpa restaurant we will walk a few meters to the beautiful and famous Santa Catalina Monastery, which is undoubtedly an icon of the city and it‘s also known as a “city into a city”, due to its big size.

Then we will walk towards the neighborhood “el solar”, a small group of houses that are built with the characteristic volcanic white stone of Arequipa. After the neighborhood el Solar we will enter the “Tambo el Matadero” which was for many years (in the time of the Incas) a place of rest and exchange of merchandise for people who came from the Peruvian coast.

After knowing these beautiful hidden places in Arequipa, we will all walk together to the Plaza de Armas for a brief explanation of the history of Arequipa, the square, the cathedral and the buildings around it.

The tour continues with a visit to the “Fundo el Fierro” which is located a few blocks from the “Plaza de Armas”. On this place, the guide will take the time to explain its interesting history, but also right there they will be able to taste a traditional Arequipeño dessert called “Ice Cream Cheese”. This dessert is basically an ice cream that is shaped like cheese when they make it.

From “Fundo el Fierro” we will walk to “Mundo Alpaca” to see clothes made of Alpaca and Vicuña, but also to see real Alpacas and learn more about them and also about how its wool is treated before converting it in clothes.

Finally we will walk to Yanahuara, that walk will take around 10 minutes and you will definitely enjoy it. Yanahuara is a very beautiful district of Arequipa and it has a nice view point from where you can see the volcanoes and most of the city.
